Prime95 is a freeware portable program which finds Mersenne prime numbers. This application can be used for benchmark, burn-in test or research under windows/Linux/Unix/Mac.

Prime95 is the name of a Windows-based software application written by George Woltman that is used by GIMPS, a distributed computing project dedicated to finding new Mersenne prime numbers. The Linux-based version is called MPrime.Over the years, this program has become extremely popular among PC enthusiasts and overclockers as a stability testing utility. It includes a "Torture Test" mode designed specifically for testing PC subsystems for errors in order to help ensure the correct operation of Prime95 on that system, which effectively stress-tests a PC.

There are versions for Windows/Linux/Unix/Mac OS, 32-bit & 64-bit versions for all operating systems. Unix and non-x86 users should check out Ernst Mayer's Mlucas page and the Glucas page for guidance as to which code is best for their platform.
